Most of the time, this comes down to low refrigerant (usually from a small leak), a weak compressor, or the system struggling to keep up with Houston heat.
We also commonly see issues with the condenser or cooling fans—especially if the vehicle struggles more when sitting in traffic.
Why does my A/C blow cold sometimes and then turn warm?
This is one of the biggest red flags we see.
If your A/C goes back and forth between cold and warm, there’s usually a component starting to fail. It could be the compressor beginning to wear out, low refrigerant causing pressure changes, or even an electrical issue.
A lot of times, customers will say “it still works sometimes”—but that’s usually right before it stops working completely. If you’re noticing this, it’s usually a sign something is starting to fail. Catching it early can save you from a much larger repair later.
Why is my A/C cold while driving but warm at idle?
If your A/C feels great on the highway but warms up at stoplights, that’s extremely common in Houston.
This usually points to an airflow issue. Your system relies on cooling across the condenser, and when the vehicle isn’t moving, it depends heavily on the fans. In Houston traffic, this becomes especially noticeable at stoplights.
If those fans aren’t working properly—or the system is already slightly low on refrigerant—you’ll feel it almost immediately when you stop.
Why doesn’t my A/C feel as cold as it used to?
Sometimes it’s not completely “broken”—it just doesn’t perform like it used to.
That could be something simple like a restricted cabin air filter, or it could be early signs of a larger issue in the system.
Either way, A/C systems don’t typically get better on their own—especially in Houston conditions.
Why does my A/C make a high-pitched noise when it’s on high?
Sometimes the issue isn’t just temperature—it’s noise.
We recently had a customer mention a high-pitched whining sound whenever the A/C was on high. If they turned the fan speed down, the noise went away. Even more interesting—when they opened the windows, the sound stopped.
In that case, the problem ended up being a completely clogged cabin air filter. Air couldn’t move through the system properly, which caused the blower motor to strain and create that whining noise.
Once the filter was replaced, airflow returned to normal—and the noise was gone.
If you’re hearing unusual sounds when your A/C is running, especially on higher fan speeds, it’s worth having it checked before it puts additional strain on the system.

Why is my car A/C not blowing any air at all?
If you turn your A/C on and nothing is coming out of the vents, that’s usually a different issue than temperature—it’s an airflow problem.
Most of the time, this points to something in the blower system. It could be a failed blower motor, a bad resistor, or even an electrical issue preventing the fan from turning on.
In some cases, we also see completely clogged cabin air filters restricting airflow so much that it feels like nothing is coming out.
The good news is, this is typically something we can diagnose pretty quickly—but like most A/C issues, it won’t fix itself.
When should I get my car’s A/C checked?
If you’re noticing anything like:
- Air not as cold as it used to be
- Takes too long to cool down
- Only cools while driving
- Airflow feels weak
- Temperature changes randomly
